Updated: Jun 1, 2023

A strategic approach paired with attention to detail and a deep appreciation for the home's heritage allowed Maverick Design + Wedgewood Homes to transform a 1930s historical San Francisco gem into a remarkable showpiece. Recognizing the great potential in this property, our team set out to blend the charm and character of the home's original features with modern elements, creating a harmonious and updated home that brought this treasured property back to its former glory.

From the moment Maverick Design + Wedgewood Homes saw this home, they knew they had stumbled upon a true architectural gem. The 1930s-era house possessed a unique charm that whispered stories of a bygone era, and the team was determined to honor its history while giving it a fresh lease on life.

The transformation of this 1930s historic San Francisco home was a testament to the power of a strategic approach and attention to detail. Maverick Design and Wedgewood Homes successfully breathed new life into this treasured property, reviving its former glory while creating a living space that seamlessly blends the past and present. This project is a shining example of how honoring a home's heritage can result in a harmonious and updated space that captivates the hearts of its occupants and preserves its historical significance for generations to come.

Throughout the house, we chose a modern, fresh new paint scheme, stained the existing parquet wood floors in beautiful medium walnut, and thoughtfully selected lighting fixtures as the statement jewelry. Maverick Design understood the transformative power of lighting and used it to accentuate architectural details. We chose fixtures that complemented the home's aesthetic and added a touch of contemporary flair. From exquisite, polished brass chandeliers in the dining room to sleek pendant lights in the kitchen nook, each lighting choice enhanced the space and created a harmonious blend of old and new.

In addition, Maverick Design decided to preserve and enhance the existing kitchen cabinets and give them a facelift. Recognizing the craftsmanship of the original cabinets, we saw an opportunity to improve their appeal by painting them in a muted sage accent color. This simple yet effective update breathed new life into the kitchen, instantly making it a focal point. To further elevate the cabinets' aesthetic, decorative brass hardware was added, providing a touch of elegance and tying in with the home's historical charm. Completing the kitchen transformation, a beautiful period brass wall-mounted faucet was installed, marrying the functionality of modern plumbing with the vintage charm of the space.

We kept the period colorful black and yellow tiles and mint green plumbing fixtures in the bathroom, recognizing their historical significance and unique charm. However, we wanted to infuse a modern touch to keep the space fresh and updated. Through the art of staging, they strategically placed contemporary art, accessories, and lighting alongside the vintage tiles. This fusion of old and new resulted in a captivating bathroom that seamlessly combined the original colorful tiles with modern elements, creating a nostalgic and contemporary space.
