Our Maverick Design + Wedgewood Homes team instantly fell in love with this mid-century modern dream home. We were excited by the opportunity to renew and reimagine the house while keeping in mind the historical significance of this piece of architecture, initially planned by acclaimed real estate developer Joseph Eichler. Situated in an idyllic Eichler neighborhood in Sunnyvale, California, this home had experienced a full life and was well maintained by a single owner since the 1970's. While there was evidence of wear and material alterations like the 1990's kitchen remodel, the signature Eichler floor plan and architectural details were fully intact.

Maverick developed a design plan to enhance the home's architectural simplicity and openness using thoughtful material selections to reimagine it for today's buyers. Since its original construction, there had been a variety of flooring material changes throughout the home, which divided the spaces and created a compartmentalized feel. We streamlined the spaces by installing beautiful engineered hardwood flooring that allowed the architecture to shine and created a fresh take on the midcentury-style home. The mid-century aesthetic was embraced by incorporating neutrals, wood finishes, lively patterns, and pops of color throughout. In the kitchen, the tired, 1990's cabinets were removed in favor of new custom millwork, terracotta toned backsplash, and a waterfall peninsula detail. The original Eichler globe pendant lights and built-in walnut dining sideboards were carefully refurbished and reinstalled.

Traditional Eichler style architecture emphasizes indoor + outdoor living, and this home offered a beautiful venue for connecting with the outdoors. In the entry courtyard, the signature front atrium incorporated outdoor living space as part of the home. The backyard featured a large pool, ample entertaining space, and the sunny skies of Silicon Valley. Maverick Design + Wedgewood Homes are pleased to share the final result of this incredible transformation!
