Home Tour: Texas Midcentury Restored

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Maverick Design + Wedgewood Homes were excited to get their hands on this rare midcentury treasure! This home was a 1959 build, located in a desirable San Antonio neighborhood, just brimming with character. We set out on a mission to bring the property back to life, applying modern updates while still celebrating its original integrity.

Improving the curb appeal was a key priority. The existing paint scheme was worn and faded, detracting from the home's unique lines. To enhance the property's midcentury architectural design elements, we selected a light body color punctuated by a contrasting charcoal fascia and a vibrant orange door.

Inside the home, the common area layout was well defined, and we enhanced the flow by enlarging the openings for better connection. The original kitchen cabinets had beautiful lines and were in good condition, showing minor wear from years of use. Using a sustainable approach, we revived the millwork, using a muted sage paint to reflect its midcentury history. We next brought in soft brass hardware, a textural geometric backsplash, and a stunning 42" range suited to fit the existing space.

Throughout the rest of the home, the design included complimentary elevated finishes, providing a fresh new look. We kept it bright and airy with light oak flooring and white paint throughout. In the hall bath, we chose a statement floor tile and refinished the existing tub surround. The spacious primary suite was similarly enhanced, including a modern bathroom update featuring a double vanity and designer materials.

A bonus of the property was the large lot size and expansive backyard space. We added a new privacy fence around the perimeter to get the most use out of this green space.

This midcentury home was transformed with thoughtful, sustainable updates, bringing it back to its vibrant potential.
