Eden Mayer, Maverick Design, and Wedgewood Homes Reimagines Guardian of Loves Interior Spaces

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

A special edition of Maverick Monthly:

featuring a service project from December, 2021

We quickly signed on when Girl Scout, Eden Mayer, approached us about partnering up to update the design of two spaces at Guardians of Love, an organization that provides community-based family services. Eden had embarked on this project pursuing her Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouts. Our shared passion for the local community and interest in designing spaces that improve people's lives made it a perfect match.

The vision of the Guardians of Love is to enable all children to reach their maximum emotional, social, educational, and developmental potential. Their purpose is to provide culturally relevant, community-based services to children and families that preserve the family, prepare foster youth for successful emancipation, provide treatment, foster care, and strengthen the community through services.

Eden Mayer and the Maverick + Wedgewood Homes team collaborated with Guardians of Love in designing two meeting spaces to support positive interactions with foster children and their families. The existing rooms were tight, boxy, and lacked warmth and functionality. From our initial meeting, it was clear that Guardians of Love saw the value in a custom design that would be welcoming and calming to their visitors. Our goals were to make the rooms feel more like home and create a relaxing environment that encouraged a sense of connection and calm.

Overall, the rooms got an uplifting makeover with updated paint, furniture, art, and accessories that invited conversation and a feeling of home.

"The outcome of Eden's project was beyond what I couldn't ever imagined," said Kinikki Fullerwood, CEO of Guardians of Love. "Most foster care facilities have visitation rooms that are in great need of an update. It has been a pleasure working with Eden, Maverick, and Wedgewood Homes. They have created something truly special for our foster youth and families. I can't wait to see the look on visitors' faces when they see the spaces made especially for them."
